Festival Balans began as a re-branding of the Way Out West Fest that takes place each summer in Gothenburg, Sweden, but quickly became a space all it’s own. In the process I began to research theory and structure of music. I became fascinated with the idea of personal and crowd experience to music and specifically festivals. The title, Festival Balans (Swedish for balance), came from the idea that typically principles of music our reactions to it are according to a set of expectations, let–downs, and surprise. The venue then became the balanced platform to which all of this experience would take place. The material for the identity is respondent to whatever is printed on its backside, as a means of conveying the responsive experience of music festivals; each situation is dependent on multiple other situations, and subtle changes can completely redirect your activity. Listening to a band at one stage but hearing the faint sounds of another you've never heard before may move you away and into it’s direction. Thus, the identity and the experience of the festival is a state of fluid flux, transition, migration.
